Multiple Sclerosis

Many years ago when I lived next door to a Cheshire Home, I read an article by the Play-write Roger McDougall
about his battle with M.S., and how he had secured a life-long remission by going onto a milk-free, gluten-free
diet and taking a businesslike programme of supplements.
To cut a long story short, they instigated this regime at the Home and out of 14 people with M.S., 5 went
into complete remission, 3 went home. Five others benefitted very noticeably and only one appeared to make no
perceivable progress.
Sadly, the regime was halted, (as it was said to be “unscientific”), two patients died, and others regressed
to their former state or somewhat worse. It was a very sad time.
However, for sufferers at home, the scene could be brighter. It is well worth trying Gluten-free, milk-free
food and now that every supermarket has a gluten-free unit it is all extremely easy. The food is readily
available, bread, crumpets, cake, spaghetti, pizza bases, biscuits, porridge, cereals, flour, you name it,
it is out there.
For milk substitutes there are Rice Dream and Provamil, both rice milks.
In addition there is the Foresight programme, which could also help.
In the work of Isabel Jennings, MRCVS, “Vitamins in Endocrine Metabolism” she notes that baby
rats deprived of Pantothenic acid before birth are born with damage to the myelin sheath.
This damage features in M.S., and so may be a major factor. It would be worth taking Bio Care’s
Magnesium Pantothenate.
It is also thought that mercury damage can play a part. This is most likely to be coming from mercury
fillings in the teeth, or from the preservatives in immunizations etc. (Thymerasol).
Mercury fillings are now being used far less frequently, and there are plenty of white alternatives available.
However, many of us have fillings still in place, put in many years ago.
The question as to whether to disturb them is a very knotty one. The removal can create quite a bit of mercury
dust and there is the danger of making a bad situation worse.
However, if you are showing the early signs of M.S., I would contact the Society for Mercury-Free Dentistry
www.mercuryfreedentistry.org.uk (See Useful Addresses).
They can help you find a dentist in your area who is experienced in taking out amalgam fillings.
In some cases it may just be an option to see if they are “leaking” (crumbling) and then just to remove
those that are. Be sure that they are replaced with white fillings that are NOT full of fluoride. As you would
expect, all dentists receive a lot of propaganda from the pro-fluoride lobby and not all of them see through it.
The British Dental Association are not only pro-fluoride, but also pro-mercury, so are unlikely to be helpful in
any way. The only spark of hope is that the American Dental Association has just (2008) banned mercury, so as we
usually follow the USA (even into hopeless wars), with any luck, we may follow suit!
